Week 23!

Good Morning! 

Happy 100th day of school! We enjoyed 100 days of learning with a special snack, 100 day collections and more.

Next up is field day on Friday, 1/31! Please read the announcement below for all the needed information. Thank you!

We will begin reading A Bargain for Frances this week.  Please ensure that your child brings their copy to school.  Thank you!

Field Day

Athletic Field Day is next Friday, January 31st, from 8:30-11:00 for K-2! Each year classes are assigned a Greek City State for their team.  This year, our team is Sparta and our team color is red. Your child may wear a plain red shirt with no logos other than class section or Greek City State (see picture below) with athletic pants or shorts. Your child may also wear a hat & sunglasses with any athletic shoes you see fit. There will be no school lunch offered on Athletic Field Day. Please send your child to school with a lunch.

Homework

Nightly: Read for 15 min. using the book bags and bubblegum math practice for 2 minutes, practice poem ( I Know all the Sounds that the Animals Make by Jack Prelutsky; recitation on 1/30)

Phonograms to practice nightly: oo, or, th, er, ar, ou, ee, v, z, t

Monday: zoo, zip, zero, seven, forget, happy, noon and test B

Tuesday: think, sister, cast, card, south, deep, inside and wkbk. pg. 38-40

Wednesday: review all words (test on Thursday due to Field Day) and wkbk. pg. 41-43

Thursday: Wkbk. pg. 44-46

Friday: read for 15 minutes

Academics 

Idiom: Let The Cat Out of The Bag

Poetry: I Know All The Sounds That The Animals Make by Jack Prelutsky  (Recitations Begin 1/30)

Spalding: Due to Athletic Field Day, we will learn 14 new words this week. On Wednesday we will review all 14 words. On Thursday, we will have a test on all 14 words and 10 phonograms.

Grammar/Writing: This week we will read and write about passages from The Light Princess by George Macdonald. This week we will being learning about adjectives. We will learn how to identify an adjective and how to use it to describe a noun. 

Math: This week students will continue to expand their number sense for numbers over 20 as they describe the amount of tens and ones as well as 1 more, 1 less, 10 more and 10 less.

Literature: We will begin reading A Bargain for Frances. Please ensure that your child brings their copy to class. Thank you!

History: We will continue our study of the Aztec civilization. The scholars will learn about farming, Aztec leaders, Emperor Moctezuma, and the capital city of Tenochtitlan. 


 Science: We will wrap up our unit on the Skeletal System as we continue our journey through the human body.
