Week 21!


Happy Monday!  Last week was a wonderful start to 2020.  The scholars were rested and ready to learn.  We are looking forward to another great week!

Please ensure that your child continues to complete their nightly reading log and bubblegum math. These few minutes of practice are essential to their growth in first grade. Students may practice their sight word packet or fluency page (only some students will have this) for optional extra practice as well. Thank you!

Homework

Nightly: Read for 15 min. using the book bags and bubblegum math practice for 2 minutes, practice poem ( I Know all the Sounds that the Animals Make by Jack Prelutsky)

Phonograms to practice nightly: er, th, ng, wh, or, ea, ar, ear, ey, ei

Monday: Mister, Mr., thing, what, than, gave and math workbook pg. 21-23

Tuesday: its, his, her, it's, very, or, thank and math workbook pg.24-27

Wednesday: dear, west, sold, told, best, form, far and math workbook pg. 28-29

Thursday: Review all 20 words and Test B

Friday: read for 15 minutes

Academics 

Idiom: Fish Out of Water

Poetry: I Know All The Sounds That The Animals Make by Jack Prelutsky 

Spalding: We will learn 20 new words this week. On Thursday, we will review all 20 words. On Friday, we will have a test on all 20 words and 10 phonograms.

Grammar/Writing: This week we will read and write about passages from The Reluctant Dragon. We will learn how to identify and use being and linking verbs.

Math: This week students will sort data into graphs including bar graphs, pictographs and tally graphs.  Students will learn how to analyze a graph and compare the information it has to offer.

Literature: We will continue our unit on fairy tales as we read Puss in Boots, Rapunzel, Princess and the Pea and Jack and the Bean Stalk.

History: We will learn about the Mayan Calendar, the significance of the stars and planets to the Maya, and begin learning about the Aztec civilization. 


Science: This week we will complete our study of electricity. We will talk about electrical safety, and the inventor Thomas Edison.
