Week 17!

I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with joy and lots of turkey!  Before the break, the scholars of 1A enjoyed an adventure filled Egypt celebration (pictures below). Thank you to all of the parents who helped make it a huge success.

We have a few quiet weeks before the holidays hit again. We are starting our final book of the Frog and Toad series this week, Frog and Toad All Year. Please ensure that your child brings their copy to school. Thank you!  Let's encourage our scholars to finish the quarter strong! 

Homework
Nightly: Read for 15 min. using the book bags and bubblegum math practice for 2 minutes, practice poem ( it can be found here)
Phonograms to practice nightly: ee, sh, ow, ck, or, th, wh, oo, ou, ci

Monday: sleep, wash, yellow, nine, face and math wkbk. pg. 157-160

Tuesday: miss, rides, ride, tree, sick and math wkbk. pg. 161-165

Wednesday: got, north, white, spent, foot, feet and Ch. 10 Test B

Thursday: Review all words and phonograms 1x and Cum 1-10 Test B

Friday: Read for 15 minutes, book of choice

Academics 
Idiom: The More The Merrier
Poetry: Table Manners by Gelett Burgess
*Recitations the week of 12/16

Spalding: We will learn 16 new words this week. On Thursday, we will review all 16 words. On Friday, we will have a test on all 15 words and 10 phonograms.

Grammar/Writing: This week we will read and write about passages from a poem named The Saturdays. We will continue to learn about how to write a complete sentence. We will practice using punctuation and abbreviations. 

Math: We will continue measurement this week by finding and comparing the capacity of objects. We will also spend time reviewing addition and subtraction skills.

Literature: We will begin our third and final selection from the Frog and Toad series; Frog and Toad All Year. Please ensure that your child brings their copy to school.  Thank you!

Science: We will wrap-up our unit on the three states of matter and begin our study of electricity! 

History: This week we will finish our unit on the Three World Religions by hearing about the Islam faith. We will identify Islam as a monotheistic religion and identify its symbols, holy book, and place of worship.
