Last week was a short but full week here in 1A! This week we will continue our 2 minute bubblegum math homework. Thank you for having your child practice their math facts each night to ensure their math facts fluency! Please have your child return their packet when it is completed.

Homework
Nightly: Read for 15 min. using the book bags.
Please have your child practice our monthly poem for 1 minute each night. A copy of the poem will be sent home or find it here.
Phonograms to practice nightly: o, u, m, n, h, ea, ee, ai, oi, ur
Monday: ago, old, bad, red, of and , Bubblegum math, 3.2 Test B
Tuesday: be, but, this, your, you, Bubblegum math, math WB pg. 38-39
Wednesday: all, out, time, may, into, Bubblegum math, and math WB pg. 40-41
Thursday: Review all words and phonograms, Bubblegum math and 3.3 Test B
Friday: Please read a book of your child's choice for 15 minutes.
Announcements:
Our Curriculum Night Q&A will be this Wednesday at 6pm in the classroom. This is going to be such a special opportunity for us to get together as a class family and discuss the 1st grade curriculum as well as any other questions or concerns that you may have-no questions or topic is too small or “silly”! Also, you might receive a special home baked treat from Pastry Chef (in my dreams) Modisett ;)
Academic
Poem for September: The Pasture by Robert Frost. (Recite on 9/27). We will practice this poem daily in class. Please help us by practicing it for one minute each night.
Idiom: If at first you don't succeed, try try again!
Meaning: Never Give Up! We will practice this idiom in class with special worksheets and activities.
Grammar/ Writing: Students will be able to explain the purpose of a pronoun, answer questions using singular pronouns ( I, me, my, mine, you, your, yours, he, she, him, her, it, his, hers, its) and plural pronouns ( we, us, our, ours, they, them, their, theirs), and identify a pronoun in a sentence or replace a noun with a pronoun when appropriate.
Spalding: We will learn 15 new words this week. On Thursday, we will review all 15 words. On Friday, we will have a test on all 15 words and 10 phonograms.
Math: We will continue to explore various strategies for addition as we become fluent in this important math skill.
Literature: We will continue to enjoy Cinderella stories from around the world including China and Korea. We will then wrap up our unit by creating our own pair of slippers for Cinderella!
Science: Students will begin to identify the characteristics of the tropical rainforest and learn how animals have adapted to living in the rainforest habitat.
History: We are beginning a new unit on the ancient civilization of Mesopotamia. Students will learn where this civilization was located and why that was important. They will also take a look at their form of writing, and try it out themselves!
