Week 9!

Good Morning!

Please send my thank you to all of the grandparents who attended grandparents day on Friday.  We enjoyed having these special guests in our class! 

As we round out first quarter this week, we look forward to the scholars finishing the quarter strong!  We also look forward to enjoying their animal reports which are due on Oct. 4th.

Homework
Nightly: Read for 15 min. using the book bags.
Please have your child practice our monthly poem for 1 minute each night. A copy of the poem will be sent home or find it here!
Phonograms to practice nightly: th, ch, ay, ee, ea, a, e, i, o, u
Monday: big, bag, beg, bog, bug and wkbk. pg. 57-58
Tuesday: mother, three, land, cold, hot and wkbk. pg.59-60
Wednesday: hat, child, ice, play, see, sea and Test B 
Thursday: Review all words and phonograms and Test B
Friday: Please read a book of your child's choice for 15 minutes. 

Academics
Idiom: Practice Makes Perfect
Poetry: The Purple Cow by Gelett Burgess
I never saw a purple cow;
I never hope to see one;
But I can tell you, anyhow,
I'd rather see the be one.

Spalding: We will learn 16 new words this week because we have two words that should be learned together. On Thursday, we will review all 16 words. On Friday, we will have a test on all 16 words and 10 phonograms.

Literature:
This week we will finish reading Owl at Home.  Students will read chapters 4 and 5 as well as enjoy an Owl at Home reader’s theater.  We will conclude the book with a special Owl at Home project and activity.

Math: We will continue to practice subtraction and wrap up with a test near the end of the week.

History:  We will begin our next adventure this week by visiting ancient Egypt! Students will learn about the Nile River and its importance to the civilization. 

Science: Students will present their animal research reports to their classmates & take a short assessment on habitats.
